As a dancer, choreographer, and educator, I believe in the creativity and knowledge that exists within each student. I see the classroom as a time for experimentation, exploration, and investigation. I also believe the classroom offers a communal space for shared learning. In this, I seek to facilitate a co-learning environment through an ongoing process of active participation and negotiation between and among students and myself. This student-centered approach provides space for dialogue, asking questions, and for multiple truths to exist. I work to provide opportunities for students to deepen their engagement with the body and their movement experiences, and with each other as their creative and artistic practices develop.
I believe class is a space to practice rigorously our commitment to investigating movement. I believe it is a vehicle for discovery—offering a pathway to question, reflect, play, consider, and communicate. It asks that we have courage, take risks, be vulnerable, honest, and compassionate toward one another. As an educator, my role is to make this space known and available to each student.
